Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk Partners with the UAE Food Bank
for a whopping 1,000 meal project
Wafi City’s prestigious properties come together for a noble cause this Ramadan
by giving back to the under-privileged
In the spirit of the holy month of Ramadan, Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk partners with the country’s exemplary non-profit humanitarian organization, UAE Food Bank, for an astoundingly ambitious 1000-meal project to help eliminate food waste and turn short-shelved life products into wholesome, delicious Iftar meals for the less fortunate.
Held at the Sofitel flagship property, the French-Egyptian inspired luxe hotel brings in notable suppliers, including Barakat, Simply Gourmet, Safco, Classic Fine Foods, No onions, Fresh Catch and Transmed who graciously offered short-shelved life products to transform into nutritious and tasteful meals for those in need for Iftar. The Neighboring sister hotel, Raffles Dubai, also supported the UAE Food Bank by offering over 300 meals throughout the month of Ramadan and joined forces with the Sofitel team to contribute to the heart-felt cause with volunteers ready to prepare over 1000 meals.
At the helm of the project is Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk’s Executive Chef, Russell Impiazzi, who has championed several community-driven causes in his over 25 years long culinary journey, including The Pink Brigade to support Breast Cancer Awareness, and ‘#FeedThoseInNeed’ whilst in London to help feed those in need during the 2020 pandemic. The ideal pacemaker for the charitable initiative, Russell Impiazzi is determined to change the face of dining in the region by reinforcing sustainable F&B tactics, starting with his talented culinary team.
Chef Russell Impiazzi explains ‘Food waste is an ongoing conversation that we have to address together as an industry to find a solution that not only aids but supports a great cause. The food and beverage industry has the ability to bring people together in so many different ways and with the incredible support of our suppliers who have generously donated items that potentially would have gone to waste, we were able to turn great produce into wholesome and nutritious meals all in aid of the UAE Food Bank. It has been inspiring to see the team get behind the initiative and it’s something that we as a hotel will continue to support, quite simply because it’s the right thing to do’.
The first of many future partnerships with the UAE Food Bank, the union also marks Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk’s efforts to align Accor’s Planet 21 best practices with the UAE 2021 vision and the national strategies that call for sustainability and food waste reduction. Constantly and consistently aiming for a more efficient tomorrow, the hotel has already implemented several eco-friendly tactics to alter and urge both industry and public perspectives towards an eco-focused future.
